I, Nomi Difrent Places Tour
I'm April Kidwell. Writer, producer and star of I, Nomi - the one woman musical comedy about the life of Nomi Malone before and after Las Vegas (a hilariously irreverent and ironically feminist mashup parody of the cult films Showgirls and I, Tonya).
After two incredibly successful runs in San Francisco I'm taking I, Nomi on the road for the Difrent Places Tour! Seattle! Las Vegas! New York City! and more dates to come!!!
To do this - I need your help. I was planning on financing this whole tour out of my own pocket (like I did with the first two productions in San Francisco). Due to unfortunate and unforeseen circumstances regarding a profitable gig that was cancelled with less than twenty four hours notice - I do not have the funds to finance the two most expensive parts of this tour. The head mic set and the ad campaign I need for the Seattle run.
The head mic set:
Because this show is so incredibly physical I need a special microphone (head mic, receiver and transmitter) for these performances. This headset is a necessity so I won't blow out my voice and for the audience to hear me over the music. Owning a mic set will significantly impact the stress I would take on from hunting down a microphone rental in each location as well as dramatically cut the costs accrued from renting vs buying.
I have a wonderful friend (who owns a sound equipment company) that has offered me a generous deal for the mic set I need for $550 (wholesale price).
The ad campaign for the Seattle run:
I am starting at ground zero as far as promoting this show in Seattle - with no performance experience and very few contacts in the area. I have trust and faith I, Nomi will perform well there as long as I can effectively get the word out about this show. I have been directed by several trustworthy sources to hire Polite Society (a reputable Seattle promoter) to create and mount a physical ad campaign that will poster my show materials in, out, up and down Capitol Hill. As well as create a facebook ad campaign that will target these Seattle specific audiences. Estimated costs for these combined campaigns is $500.
I created I, Nomi because I was tired of working dead end jobs and I wanted to support myself using my best skill set. Making people laugh! Creating and producing I, Nomi has been the most incredibly challenging and equally rewarding experience of my career and creative life.
This show is my #metoo movement play and was inspired by my own personal experience with sexual assault in this industry. After years of being so angry and traumatized by this particular incident - one day I wrote a song about it. Then the song became a scene and eventually the scene expanded into this play. Creating and performing I, Nomi has been the most incredibly cathartic experience and I'm so grateful that I've transformed those feelings and no longer harbor that anger.
One of the most unexpected and rewarding aspects of this I, Nomi journey is that consistently after each performance I've been approached by handfuls of women - thanking me for triggering them and helping them laugh through their trauma. That's something special and that is the gift I'd like to continue to share with the world.
If you would like to help me take I, Nomi on tour I am humbly and graciously asking for $1050 to finance the head mic and Seattle ad campaign.
I would be truly over the moon with gratitude for any and all assistance. Hopefully I can bring this show to your city and treat you to a performance of heartfelt belly laughs.
Thank you for your time and attention.
With Love and Gratitude,
