Wrestle for Humanity

Donation protected

In the past decade, the UK has experienced significant increases in poverty and mental health issues, which has significantly impacted upon low-income communities. Austerity measures and cuts to public services have left already struggling communities without support. To add to this, rates of violent crime and the exploitation of vulnerable children and adults has increased substantially. There is a need for intervention at both local and national levels to support disaffected communities and individuals in dire circumstances.

Our Aims

• To support community participation in sports-based activities by providing wrestling facilities capable of improving physical and mental health, and the overall conditions of life.

• To assist individuals experiencing economic disadvantage, disabilities, mental health issues, vulnerability and exploitation, to access sports facilities and provide ongoing training without fee.

• To strengthen community bonds through participation in wrestling, whilst providing links to local community services and educators to help people reach their potential as positive members of our society.

Olympic Wrestling is the oldest sport in the world and is becoming increasingly popular in the UK and beyond. Sport has the potential to improve lives, escape poverty, improve physical and mental health and enhance educational attainment. The Southwest is missing a suitable training ground to empower local athletes to achieve their potential and compete at a professional level. At present our team has a training ground but is missing the necessary equipment to train athletes to a heightened level to compete professionally. The equipment we require is mobile giving us significant potential to reach out and support disaffected communities across the country. We also aim to hold annual wrestling competitions to raise money for charity, hosting aspiring athletes and world-renowned champions. In order to meet this goal, we require financial investment to acquire the necessary equipment (wrestling mats). In achieving this we will be providing both the grounds in which people can train but also a commitment to support disaffected communities through the provision of bespoke services and ongoing donations to charity. Coach Saeed Esmaeli has helped raise £47,000 in donations for charity but needs your help to raise more (any additional funds raised will be redirected to supporting individuals in crisis situations).
