Indigo Wellness — and now Indigo Yoga — are looking forward to being a mainstay in the Kirkwood community for years to come. I am Paris Campeau, owner and operator of Indigo Wellness spa. From day one, my goal has been to create a space for rejuvenating body, mind and spirit. Although my background is rooted in skin care, I am also a certified yoga instructor and it has always been my dream to include yoga and meditation as part of the business. However, when I took over Jazmin Spa in February 2016, there wasn't adequate space to include yoga and the healing arts so I was forced to abandon that aspect of the business plan....until now.
ABOUT THE PROJECT
Yoga is a natural addition to the foundation we have created with the spa and now, just a block away, is the perfect space for it. The acquisition of the old UCC Church behind Arden's Gardens in Kirkwood establishes a genuine connection for the Indigo movement. There is no other yoga studio in or near the neighborhood, the location is perfect and the community is definitely one of consciousness. Indigo Yoga will be a traditional hatha studio. The remodel of the UCC Church will share the same unique blend of modern design and immersive atmosphere as Indigo Wellness, created by my business partner Kendell van der Heijden.
RISKS and CHALLENGES
We polled clients, friends and residents in Kirkwood, all of whom agreed a yoga studio and the healing arts would be an excellent addition. Now the problem is how to make it happen. I wasn't sure how we were going to do it with all of our funds now wrapped up in the spa, but when I saw the old UCC Church space, I knew I needed to try.
The space needs work to transform it into the space we know it can be. It requires demolition, new flooring suitable for practice, extensive rewiring of electrical and sound, in addition to implementation of a cashless payment system using smartphones for those choosing to walk to the studio without the burden of wallets or purses.
