Quiroz Family & Indigenous Roots

Donation protected
Dear friends, family and community at large,

Please read this and consider helping a Saint Paul family that has done so much to help others including myself and my boys. Maryanne and Sergio Quiroz are two of the most generous and hard working people I have ever met.  They and their beautiful four children (ages 3-18) contribute so much to our community through outreach, art, and activism. Personally I've only known them for a little over a year now, meeting them when Maryanne was organizing a youth and donation caravan to Standing Rock to help water protectors stand against the pipeline. However in that short amount of time they have given our family so much in the form of time, guidance, and opportunities for growth and developement. From leading our indigenous Mexica Dance group that teaches us about our ancestrial teachings, dances, ceremonies, and language to mentoring and offering opportunities that support and encourage our individual potentials and dreams. They are always giving as they are often asked to conduct special ceremonies and presentations for free to the community and they are always opening their home and the center to youth and people who are looking for community and a safe place to be who they are. It has been my experience that they offer all of this from their heart and they often put their own needs and wants aside for what the people in their communities need and ask of them. I can personally say that I and my children have benefited from these gifts and it is for that reason that I want to do this to help them.  I hope that you will join me in this by donating what you can to help them in their time of need.

Please watch the attached video to see what they have been able to accomplish so far with very little financial help at the Center! And keep reading below to better understand the current situation.

Sincerely,
Marisa

As of Monday, December 4, due to "budgetary shortfall", all the staff including Maryanne Quiroz, Co-founder of Indigenous Roots Cultural Arts Center, wife to Sergio ( Co-founder and full time college student) and mother of four incredible children, were unexpectedly terminated at Dayton's Bluff Community Council.

For a family of six that depended on one full time income, this is an incredibly hard time for them but they remain strong, steady and united. They are grateful for their older children who are patient, thoughtful and step up to keep the home in order and grateful for their younger children who are sweet, kind and funny to keep the family and home in good spirits.

This termination does not end:
the work Sergio and Maryanne have done and continue to do in/with the community
the work Indigenous Roots has done and continue to do in/with community
the love and dedication their family has for the East Side.

On the contrary, as descendants of strong and resilient ancestors, they continue to work with respect, gratitude, honesty and service. Maryanne and Sergio have been organizing together as youth since their days at Johnson Senior High School and will continue to serve their East Side Saint Paul community until it is no longer needed and/or asked for.

"As community members we must claim our seat at the table. If needed, create a new table and ensure that everyone has a safe and comfortable seat to sit on." Maryanne.  This is what the Quiroz family has been dedicated in doing; providing space and time for Indigenous/People of Color to create, preserve and share our truest essence as human beings through arts and culture.

Please help them continue to do the important work that they do and ease the transition of this hard time for them. Any donation is accepted in full gratitude however small and is tax deductible because you are donating directly to their non profit Indigenous Roots. From there the money will be used to help cover overhead expenses like rent as well as a salary for Maryanne to become a full time paid employee rather than a volunteer there. Your donation not only helps the Quiroz family but all of us in the community circle they have created with love and compassion. Please help if you can!

Sincerely,
Marisa
