Indigenous kids in care fundraiser

Indigicate is a majority-owned Indigenous company with a vision of ending Indigenous disadvantage through reconciliation programs that change the negative narrative of Indigenous Australians. Our company specialises in school camps, outdoor education, reconciliation incursions, international cross-cultural experiences and cultural education training. The philosophy we have is simple, change a generation by educating them to understand history and culture and when they are adults their knowledge and compassion will close the gap of Indigenous disadvantage. Indigicate targets two areas with our programs. The first area we target is non-Indigenous students and they account for around 90% of our programs. We believe that if we change the way they think about Indigenous Australians then they will grow up to work in partnership with us and true partnerships will change end Indigenous disadvantage. 10% of our prorgams focus on working with Indigenous young people who live in the care of the state. These young people are our most vulnerable and we provide opportunities for them to experience positive roles models, leadership programs and opportunities for hope.
This funding will help to fund Indigicate's Reconciliation leadership Program. The program will send 10 Indigenous young people aged 16 and 17 to France for a children's conference in July 2019. The 10 young people are all young people who have been in the care of the state and have had difficult childhoods. Even though they come from difficult circumstances they have all demonstrated leadership and resilience, and have stayed in school. The young people who are coming on this trip are young people that we have worked with on previous camps. They could never afford to attend the conference on their own and most of them live in foster care situations. They already have passports and this trip has been planned for a while, unfortunately, funding fell through and now we must rais the extra funds to make sure this experience happens.
Our aim is to raise $75,000.00 to run the program. We have currently raised $40,000.00 (Direct giving) and need to raise $35,000.00 to be able to take the full 15 people to France.
The $75,000.00 covers the cost of flights, accommodation, transfers, site visits, conference fees, food and some spending money. It will also pay $250.00 per day for qualified experienced staff who will be the role models and guides for the young people. Wages account for $15,000 of the total and we cannot rely on volunteers for this trip. The young people come from the Western District of Victoria and have been sourced through Goolum Goolum, Windamara, Gunditjmara and DHHS.
We will be withdrawing funds between June 28th and July 7th. This fundraising request will cease on July 7th.
The young people going on this program have never traveled overseas. This is a once in a lifetime transformational experience that we hope will provide them with access to role models, opportunities for leadership and the chance to be the first in their families to travel overseas.
