APO and MAT recognize that this world is a diverse one. When we say diverse, we mean a world filled with all shapes, sizes, colors, situations, and upbringings that make people the unique individuals they are. Culture is a loaded word. Ones culture is not just defined by the color of their skin or their ethnic background. It incorporates all the things that make us diverse, unique, and individual. Often as people, we become blindsided by the categories society puts us in. We are often led to believe that one culture equals one ethnicity, equals one color - but the world is not all black and white. It’s not all shades of grey either. The world is colorful. It is filled with variety - shades and tones of every saturated color and situation out there. And that’s what we are here to showcase.
Like all cultures, the Latin community represented in our show is not one toned. It can be brown, black, white, and everything in-between and intermixed. In presenting this show in particular, we hope to shed light on all minority groups that face adversity in today's time, from certainly the Latin community, but also the LBGTQ community. Specifically, we plan on fundraising for Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS, an organization described as the theatre community's response to the AIDS crisis, and Somos Una Voz, an alliance of artists working together to rush food, shelter, medicine, power and communications to those in need from the effects of recent natural disasters in Puerto Rico.
By helping us achieve our goal, we are able to fund our production and bring this story to life. Every little bit helps!
Come see the show May 11 & 12th at 8 PM in the Arnold Hall Theater!
