In Memory of Karma (Bean)

Donation protected
On Monday, May 7th at approximately 5:00 p.m., Karma (Bean) was attacked by another dog at the Curtis Dog Park, as her owner Bri Garland was leaving. The much larger dog grabbed Karma from Bri's arms and began violently shaking her. Even with the immense efforts of Bri and three other men (the dog's owner included), the dog kept Karma in his mouth, shaking her until she was limp and covered in blood.

Karma's chest (lung) and stomach were punctured and her sides lacerated with two large gashes. Bri rushed Karma to the vet, where they attempted to stabilize her with IV fluids and pain medication. Karma was transferred to an emergency vet, where they were advised Karma would require a $10,000-$15,000 surgery. Unfortunately, Karma was too weak and in-shock to receive the anesthesia necessary for surgery (which may not have worked).

At around 9 p.m., Karma subsided to her injuries.

Bri and her family are incredibly heartbroken with the loss of their 11- year old baby, Karma.

The other dog owners present at the time of the attack wanted to share this story with the rest of the local community, with the hope of helping Bri and her family through this incredibly difficult time. All funds graciously donated by the community will go to Bri Garland and her family, to help with any associated vet costs.

(A report was made to the local Police and Animal Control Departments and the other dog's owner will be contacted.)
