ENFIELD, CT (WFSB) -A family is in mourning after a man riding a skateboard was killed in a hit-and-run in Enfield.
According to police Chief Carl Sferrazza, officers received a call of a body laying on the side of the road along Route 5 around 1 a.m. on Friday.
Police said Route 5 was closed in both directions in the area of Orlando Drive while crews investigated the scene. It has since reopened.
Responding officers found the victim and described him as a male between the ages of 18 and 20 years old. He was laying in the road way near Orlando Drive.
Sferrazza said the victim appeared to have been skateboarding along the road when he was struck.
He said they are working to notify the victim's family.
Sferrazza said they are trying to piece together what happened and who the driver was that left the scene.
"The investigators are checking debris on the road," Sferrazza said. "That’s one thing they are looking to help determine, to determine the type of car."
Police said they don't believe the victim had been in the road for very long. They believe he may have been struck between 12:45 a.m. and 1 p.m.
