In memorial of Dr. Andre Mischke

André passed away rather unexpectedly in November 2018 at the age of 46. He was diagnosed leukemia about a year before. Through his last year he kept being optimistic, active wherever possible and dedicated to his family, friends and colleagues.
A physicist by training, André was a passionate scientist who achieved many success-stories in the field of experimental Heavy Ion Physics, among others at the international research centre CERN. Moreover, he was a dedicated teacher and supported young experimental physicists wherever possible.
We thank André for his ongoing commitment and vitality and for his countless good, inspiring and sometimes unconventional ideas, which we hope will live on within all of us.
We would like to raise funds to establish an award for young experimental physicists and to support cancer research at the interface between Physics and Medical Science at the Utrecht Medical Centre (UMCU).
More specifically, we are working to establish a price for young scientists presenting at the International conference ‘Strangeness in Quark Matter’. Moreover, we will support the annual award of the Young Academy of Europe, where André was co-initiator and founding chair.
