Anyone who knew Steve knows he loved biking, especially along the Erie Canal. Since being diagnosed with metastatic cancer in 2010 he rode 17,252 miles in total.
In lieu of flowers, his family is collecting donations to be put towards either:
- a bench along either the Erie Canal or the Walkway Over the Hudson in his honorh

GoFundMe has requested that I provide the following information to be sure that I am "transparent" about who I am and where these funds will be going. Although I clearly stated where the funds will be going above, here is the requested information:
To whom it may concern,
My name is Sarah Amberg Hendryk, daughter of Stephen Amberg.
I was born and raised near Rochester, NY. I relocated to the Poughkeepsie, NY area in 2008 for work. My father remained near Rochester and eventually moved in to his partner's house in Spencerport, NY, where he passed away.
I very specifically stated how these funds will be used above, and that has, and will not, change. I actually spoke to Stephen Olsen, with the Parks Department for the Dutchess County Rail Trail, today about a bench dedication. I will have more information about this tomorrow morning.
I logged in to this account this morning to try to find out how to cut checks directly to Camp Abilities and The Wilmot Cancer Center (as I believe that this is the most honest and transparent way to transfer funds) but found out that GoFundMe does not make this possible.
GoFundMe forces me to deposit the funds directly in to my own bank account and then cut checks from my account to my chosen charities because I do not work for these organizations, which I fully intend to do when this campaign closes.
I have sent a copy of my father's death certificate to the GoFundMe "customer happiness team" for their review, as I do not wish do endure any more questioning during this difficult time in my life.
