In Loving Memory of Nicholas Olson

On March 12, 2019, we lost one of the purest souls that this world had to offer. Nicholas was incredibly loved and cherished. Our dear friend at Akita Angels posted a thoughtful and touching post that needs to be shared,
"In Honor of Nicholas Olson
When people follow dog-rescues on social media and see the word “Donation” in the post, the first thing that comes to mind is a "monetary" donation. Today, we ask everyone to think of the word “Donation” in an entirely different way.
On Tuesday, March 5, the son of a good friend of ours turned 32. Three days later – early Friday evening – he had a heart attack, and while the paramedics worked hard and brought his body back to life, the damage was done and his brain was clinically dead. After days full of tests, tests, and more tests…the family made the very difficult decision to end life support and to donate his organs. On Wednesday, the “Donor” flag was raised outside of Henry Mayo Hospital in honor of Nicholas Olson and his gift to others, who without an organ donation, would die. Yesterday, on Thursday, the family shared the news that his heart, one kidney, his liver, and pancreas will give life to others.
Today and for the next few days, we wish to honor Nick and celebrate his life which was so unfairly cut short. He had finally met “The One” and was so happy, so truly, truly happy. They were going to get engaged that weekend and soon get married. Being someone who is old enough to have been his Mom, I saw this young man grow and mature and start to enter that next phase of his life, and it was really cool. This tragedy robbed him and Melissa, his Fiancé, of those dreams, and instead of a wedding, Melissa and Nick's immediate family had a private ceremony at his hospital bed and a ring was placed on his finger.
Nick was so kind, so truly KIND…so kind that he was almost childlike. He always had a big, genuine smile on his face, he always had something nice to say to you (or about others) and he had an Aura that was infectious and made you feel, even if for a little bit, like all was good and the world was a good place to be. He loved animals – dogs, cats – and they loved him. Nick was an incredibly talented musician - he sang, played guitar, wrote and recorded songs and he had a beautiful voice. He laughed a lot, gave hugs freely to just about anyone and because he stood 6’ 6”, your shoulders would always fit perfectly under his arms and you felt loved.
Today, we wish to rest our minds and our hearts and focus on the things and people close to us. It’s so easy to get caught up in the non-stop, daily delivery of stuff that in the end, doesn’t really matter. Life is short. Tomorrow is not a guarantee. Please take a moment to think of those people that are important to you, and tell them that you love them. We love you and ask that you leave a comment for Nick's family."
