In Honor of Trey Keys

In October of 2017, Trey Keys received a shocking diagnosis for any 43 year old man.  What he thought was just some general "not feeling well" revealed that he had Stage Four pancreatic cancer.  His immediate response was to fight and do everything he could to have as much time with his wife Dawn and two kids, Kellen and Kate.   For a long time he seemed to be winning.  He had some great vacations, continued to work, continued to volunteer for the Knights of Columbus, continued to laugh with his family.   Then, in early April of this year, the cancer started to overtake him.  But his lifelong faith sustained him through long nights and days in the hospital - dates with Dawn to visit the Hopkins Jesus statue or just walk outside to feel the sun on his face became the small victories that he cherished.

On April 29, Trey ended his long fight, having escaped the hospital and with a sense of great peace at home for almost a week with his family around him.  He got to go to his church one last time, he got to take a walk with friends, he got to straighten up, and he got to tuck his kids into bed and say prayers.  He was a strong warrior, a loving son, supportive friend, a true example of a caring father, a loving husband, and a faith-filled man.

In the last few months, many have asked how they can help.   The one thing that would be the biggest help is for Trey to rest in peace knowing his family is taken care of.  Trey was the breadwinner in his house.  Dawn says she took care of the family, he took care of the finances.  He was a relentless worker.  He rarely took real vacations and many can attest to waiting for Trey while he finished up on a call to help someone with their mortgage.  Trey's wife, Dawn, is a religion and media center teacher at St. Paul Resurrection and has given her whole heart to teaching and helping kids answer life's hardest questions about their own faith.  Unfortunately that doesn't pay what it should.  Trey worried a lot  about his family remaining supported.   His insurance was good, but his lengthy hospital stays have meant a lot of doctor and medical bills have accumulated.  Trey has battled the foundation of their house for years with leaks and cracks.  The kitchen is constantly needing attention and fixes and the kids college funds are quite paltry.

Our goal is to provide Dawn and the kids with a safety net.  Money that will relieve worry.   Any little bit will help.
