Help Iggy Raise Interlochen Tuition!

Donation protected

Hi everyone! Iggy made it to Interlochen thanks to all of your help! It is truly a special place and what a gorgeous and inspiring campus! I cannot thank everyone enough for their generosity. We couldn't have made it without you. I will leave this fundraiser open if anyone wants to help more as there are a great many expenses: he has to travel back and forth five times, he needed a MacBook as a requirement, and other school materials such as concert attire, books, etc. But really I just want to thank you all so much for helping Iggy's dream come true! Here are some pictures:

Being accepted at Interlochen is an astonishing achievement! Iggy started composing in 7th grade and since then I would venture to say there has not been one day where he did not write at least a few notes. The costs of going to Interlochen are high, but the opportunity is too good to pass. If you can pitch in it would be very much appreciated, no amount is too little. If you cannot, which we totally understand, please share with others. Together we can support Iggy and his talent. If you don't know who Iggy is, I will tell you all about him.

Iggy Mokriski is a 15-year-old composer from South Hunterdon Highschool and an alumnus of Stockton School in New Jersey. Iggy won first place on the Hunterdon Young Composer Contest in 2020 and had his music performed by the Hunterdon Symphony Orchestra in 2021. Here is a video of that performance, conducted by Lawrence Kursar:

Iggy was born in Portugal (his mother is Portuguese) and came to the United States when he was three years old. He started taking piano lessons as a four-year-old, but never took it seriously until he studied with jazz pianist and composer Neil Podgurski at Canal Music Studios. At his high school, and under the great guidance of his music teacher, Gabe Stephens, he plays Saxophone in the Marching Band, Oboe in the Concert Band, and Piano in the Jazz band, but his interests lie in composition and he is a composer rather than a performer. At the suggestion of his high school teacher, he took several one-on-one classes with local Lambertville composer Robert Maggio, who is a Professor in the Department of Music Theory, History, and Composition at West Chester Univesity’s Wells School of Music.

Iggy is also very interested in film and theater. When he was younger he was in many children’s plays at Music Mountain Theater in Lambertville. He played many roles from 2016 to 2019 there and loved participating in them. He was also in the cast of the adult play Joseph and the Technicolor Jacket, which was an amazing experience. He has made several short films, and composed music for them. In a perfect future, he envisions himself combining film and composition as his career.

Going to Interlochen Arts Academy is a dream for Iggy, he has been focused and worked hard on his music and has had amazing community and family support, but he needs your help for this next very important step of his life!

We thank you in advance for helping to make Iggy’s dreams come true!
