We, Solla and Erwin, met in Iceland in 2001 when we were both studying in Art School in Reykjavik and fell in love. After finishing our studies we decided in 2008 to build our own Mongolian Yurt. We traveled around and settled down in the North of Iceland on the land of Solla´s father. For the last four years we have been living here with our two young kids, Logi 8 and Ylva 6 in our Yurt. Living close to nature.
We want to give other people the opportunity to also have that experience. Listening to the wind or the birds singing, the sound of a raven flying by or enjoy hearing the raindrops falling on the tent while you snuggle up next to the woodstove with a good book.
Through the campaign we hope to collect enough funds to get started with our Yurt accommodation. We already ordered and paid for the five tents that we will put up. Right now they are on their way to Iceland. Before we can open there are still a few things we have to do: we need to prepare the site, build platforms and necessary facilities.
This is a big part that you can help us with by your contributions! We need to get electricity, water and hot water to the site. We will start by putting up simple but nice restrooms and a shower and our dream is to eventually have hot tubs as well next to the tents.

What We Need & What You Get
We have been working on our project for over a year now, but we have had the idea for almost 10 years since we built our own yurt.
We used all our savings to fund the purchasing and transporting of the first yurts from Mongolia to Iceland which arrived here in July 2018. We still need some funding to complete the last very important step and that is to prepare the site. Running water, electricity and plumbing have to be put up and we have to shop for the interior of the tents (comfortable beds, blankets, woodstoves etc.). The crowd funding will make it possible for us to pay for these things and start up our business without having to take a big loan from the bank. At the moment we still need about 25.000 euros to arrange everything that we want to make it nice.
You have a chance to help us realize our dream and also to be one of the first to sleep in our yurts! Erwin is also a tour guide and ski instructor and can show you his favorite spots in North Iceland during your visit, or teach you how to ski, cross country ski or snowboard ;) There are a lot of nice things to do in North Iceland both in summer and winter! And if you want to relax and get away from the busy life Solla will give sound healings and meditations in one of the yurts.

The Impact
Tourism in Iceland has been growing a lot over the past decade and there is a need for accommodation. A lot of very big hotels are being constructed everywhere around the island. Most tourists come to Iceland during the summer, so many hotels will be empty during the winter months. The Yurt is a mobile structure which can be taken down and doesn´t have as much impact on the surroundings as a concrete building.
Sleeping in a yurt is a unique experience, the roundness of the structure has a calming effect on people staying in it and makes you feel sheltered. Yet you are in very close contact to nature. When we get enough contributions you will help us to realize our dream of sharing this experience and starting up a family business. We don´t have to borrow a large sum of money from the bank plus we will also be able to use durable environmental friendly local materials inside the yurts; such as woolen Icelandic blankets and wood for the floors.
Apart from being ignited from our passion it is a way to bring more awareness and consciousness about our intimate connection with the nature and the environment, and the impact that our actions have on it.
Risks & Challenges
It has been not easy to arrange all the paperwork, transport and to find out everything we need to realize our dream. But we are very determined to make it work and we are getting a lot of help from our families and friends and together we will be able to build up something very beautiful to share with other people.
