I AM, WE ARE YOUTH

I Am, We Are (IAWA) is seeking donations to launch our program in South Africa.  Funds raised will go towards providing meals, local transportation, supplies, and local salaries. IAWA Ambassadors (camp attendees) will be served breakfast and lunch every day during camps and reimbursed for transportation to and from the camp. Supplies will be needed for daily activities during camps and to support IAWA ambassadors implement community action projects in between camps. IAWA will train and employ unemployed youth-out-of-school (youth that have graduated from high school) to serve as team leaders. A small portion of donations will also go towards administrative costs. 

I Am, We Are Overview
IAWA is dedicated to creating a world where all youth are socially engaged, globally aware, and economically free. Founded on the philosophy of Ubuntu, we strive to give youth an understanding of self and the global community so that they may know their place in the world.   We then want to equip them with the knowledge and skills to create the world they imagine.  To do so, our interactive curriculum focuses on four core principles: personal consciousness, global awareness, entrepreneurship, and social responsibility.

Our multi-year program augments the in-school education of learners in grade 8 through grade 11 to foster within them a mindset of conscious entrepreneurship or an attitude of finding and creating opportunities based on an acute consciousness of self and one’s surroundings.    

Program Overview
IAWA operates through one-to-two weeklong camps during the school holidays.  Through partnerships with schools in Navajo Nation, New Mexico, USA, Kumasi, Ghana, and Royal Bafokeng Nation, South Africa, IAWA will connect and empower disenfranchised youth across the globe.  To date, IAWA has conducted a camp in Ghana and will be conducting its inaugural South African camp in October 2015.
