Brett's Medical Fund

In 2014, Brett suffered through a painful life-threatening attack of acute pancreatitis. A gallstone had accidentally lodged into his pancreas setting off a domino effect of events that resulted in 6 surgical procedures and left him the the hospital for 21 days. As a result, a major part of his pancreas died and became infected.
In 2015, Brett had to return to the hospital for another surgical procedure to have the infected part of his pancreas removed, where he remained for another 20 days.
After a year of otherwise healthy recovery, it was discovered that the pancreatic fluids from the original attack left the major veins in his liver heavily scarred and clotted. His liver and pancreas remain healthy, but the restricted blood flow, caused by his major veins being scarred, has forced blood to flow into regions of his stomach that can't handle the increased blood pressure, causing a condition known as gastric varices. The varices present a risk of rupturing and may cause serious internal bleeding if left untreated.

Brett will begin treatment for the gastric varices in 2017.  Regardless of the outcomes of the upcoming procedure, the gastric varices are a condition that will need to be continuously monitored through endoscopic procedures for the rest of his life.  The proposed funds seek to offset the existing $10k costs of his accumulated unpaid medical costs as well as the anticipated costs for the upcoming procedures in 2017.

Any help, no matter how small, would be greatly appreciated, as Brett continues to work and care for his wife and son, and is expecting another baby boy in April.
