My name is Lauren Husting, and I am passionate about teaching private music lessons for dedicated low brass students. I have made this my living- and that means I market myself to certain communities that generally have the means to pay full cost for musical study.

But I'd like to continue doing that- AND reach other parts of the city where aspiring young musicians might not be able to afford private lessons. Here's where you come in. I'd like to start small: raise enough money to provide a scholarship for one student from a low income or underserved district. I have a few potential school districts picked out, now it's up to you to help me fund my goal!

The selected student (or students- if I double my goal, I can offer 2 scholarships, triple 3, etc, etc) will only have to pay $5/lesson. Scholarship money will include the cost of any materials (instruments not included) they may need to ensure their musical success.

The full amount of the scholarship should cover 1 year (roughly 45 weeks) of lessons with me.

I believe strongly in both the lasting effect music has on the education of our young folks and in music for music's sake. Ensemble programs in schools are a huge part of keeping this ideal alive, but private instruction is equally necessary for young musicians hoping to hone their skills.

Thanks in advance for your contribution!

Dear Studio Scholarship 2015 Backers,

I'm so excited to announce that I am running this campaign again to provide funds for 2016's students. Here's the link to the new campaign: https://www.gofundme.com/hustingstudio2016

I'll hope you'll consider giving again. This year, some changes:
1. I'm asking for more funds, so I can provide more lessons. Additionally, every $100 over my goal will go toward providing clinics to school bands in my area that cannot usually afford professional players for their students in a master class setting.
2. 50% of my funds are now earmarked for students of color and female students, in hopes I can reach more of my community.
3. This money can go farther- depending on who applies, I may offer 2 full scholarships- or 4 half scholarships, or 1 full and 2 half- we'll see! The more I reach the better.

Also, next Thursday, July 21st, is my 35th birthday. If I reach $1000 by Friday, July 22nd, I'll consider it one of the best birthday presents I could ask for.

Thank you again for all your support last year. If you can give again this year I'm eternally grateful. If you can't- please feel free to share, and I'll be grateful for that as well. You are the best friends, family, and colleagues I could have.

Most sincerely,

Lauren Husting

Dear Husting Studio Scholarship supporters,

Happy New Year!

I'd like to give you a little update on my amazing scholarship students as they enter 2016 with big musical goals.

Alex B, my senior, has auditioned for the Greater Twin Cities Youth Symphonies on tuba and been placed in Camerata, one of their top orchestras. He is also preparing to audition at UW-River Falls for fall entrance to their music program. He's been working up the Larssen Concertino- one of my favorite works for trombone - and he's sounding fantastic on it. He's also been working long hours at Menards to save up money to buy his dream trombone- a Bach 42.

Paul B, my junior, is also hoping to buy a horn soon. He's playing both tenor and bass in the Fridley ensembles and sounding fantastic at both. For solo/ensemble this year he has chosen to perform the Ropartz Andante and Allegro, and is really diving into the Rochut etudes gracefully (something I took years to learn how to do).

Both students will utilize the MSHSL contests as one of their featured performances for the year, and we are working on determining the second. I am constantly impressed and inspired by these two dedicated young men and know they will do amazing things both in music and in life.

Thank you for all your support, financial or otherwise- your efforts to help me fund these scholarships have paid off more than you can ever know, both for my students and for me. Stay tuned for more information on what comes next!

Sincerely,

Lauren

Dearest supporters and friends,

I'm pleased to announce that I have selected and begun lessons with my two scholarship students!

Alex B. is a senior at Fridley High school, a student of Mike Pearson. He's been playing trombone for almost 8 years and also plays bass trombone and tuba. He hasn't had lessons since he began band in middle school and is excited to learn more about technique and theory. He hopes to start classes at Anoka-Ramsey Community College next fall.

Paul B is Alex's classmate at Fridley, in his junior year. He's been playing for 6 years and has never had regular lessons. He also plays bass trombone in the school's jazz band. He wants to know more about his instrument and the types of music he can use it for, as his musical palate is really varied. After high school he has plans to join the Air Force.

I'm really excited to see what these two do this year and what their progress will be! Thank you again for all your help in making this a reality.

Best,
Lauren
