Hurricane Florence Cabin Rebuild

We are the Miller's, just another hard working family that resides here in Dunn/ Erwin area of Harnett County, NC.   My wonderful wife Anna Miller is a amazing hard working woman and mother that has the pleasure of working with Pivot Physical Therapy and being the rock of my life and our family.  My name is Matthew Miller and I am a medically retired Marine and after over a decade of active duty service and and multiple deployments together we chose to make a country cabin living lifestyle a reality and purchase our first home and land in Erwin, NC.  We have two wonderful young children CJ and Lilly and they enjoy growing up in this wonderful community and area after all the years of moving while I was active duty.  As so many have seen in the recent week hurricane Florence has devastated so many and we sadly became part of that.  Now with any large scale natural disaster we can expect damage but the rising waters were more brutal and unlike anything we had ever seen especially in comparison to hurricane Matthew two years ago.   Our home and land reside close but not on the Cape Fear river and with this storm the waters and the damage was unlike even what this Marine could prepare for.  In the beginning the winds and storm brought down multiple trees that damaged not only the cabin but the land , then came the rain which exploited the roof damage and allowed water into our home.  To add insult to injury the rising river water that came out of its banks reached our cabin which is elevated and over 3 acres away coming into our home and our basement.  All this happened  so suddenly that despite our greatest efforts to prepare it fell short in more ways then one.   Following a mandatory evacuation order we had to leave and most of this damage happened all while we watched in horror and could do nothing to stop the devastating destruction that took place.  
      Like so many families that have been affected by this storm we have the proper insurance in place to include flood and home owners and yet like we often find, companies exploit loop holes and leave families with nothing.  Our flood insurance covers little to nothing in our basement so the countless tools that I use to build and help improve our home are total loss.  The military memories I have from my years and time active duty in the Marines are all lost to the river water.  So many countless things that mean nothing to insurance companies but everything to our family are lost. 
     Our goal is to rebuild and replace the best we can and this can be done with time and faith which our family will, and can do.  Our hope with this "gofundme" page is to try to gain a footing to begin the long road ahead of repairing and rebuilding our forever home that we want many more years and memories with our family together.  My wife Anna works so hard with Pivot Physical Therapy and being that I am a medically retired and physically disabled Marine at times there can be limitations to our resources and what I can do.  My heart and my love for my family could never be stronger and as one could understand right now the tasks ahead can be overwhelming and the burden of this damage its hard to find a place to start.  We thank any and all support or donations as it will help and allow us to repair and rebuild a strong and safe home for our family to be able to live and grow in.
