Justin's Hunting Trip Turned Tragic

Donation protected
Background

My family has always been heavily involved in the outdoors. The outdoors have always been a place for us to connect with each other and God . My brother is no exception.  If it was up to him, he would hunt and fish for a living .

My brother is married to his wife Tiffany and has two kids, Lexi and Caden. Lexi is 8 and Caden is 5.

The Location

The accident occurred on a remote piece of land in the Mark Twain National Forrest in Southeast Missouri.

The Accident

My brother arrived to his hunting spot after dropping off his friend at a different location approximately a mile away. He walked into the woods and climbed his treestand and hung up his bow so he could clip his safety harness onto the safety strap on the tree. As he turned to reach the safety clip, it happened .

There was a catastrophic failure causing the strap holding the treestsnd to the tree to break. My brother fell approximately 25 feet before hitting the ground.  Luckily he didn't lose consciousness and was able to reach his phone from his satchel. He called his friend who ran the entire distance between them to come to his aid.

Due to the nature of how remote our hunting location is, a standard emergency response was not possible. My brother's friend was able to talk to 911 to guide first responders to the location, which was across some very treacherous terrain. They had to use their own personal truck to get to my brother.  In the midst of their response Life Flight was requested.

Medevac was able to arrive and render further aid to my brother while they transported him to the hospital.

The Injuries

Due to the height of the fall and the severity of the impact, my brother's injuries are complex. He has multiple breaks of his pelvis, a fractured wrist, significant swelling and internal bleeding, as well as a contusion to his lung.  We have also been informed that he has 2 cracked vertebrae in his back .

Recovery for these types of injuries is going to be very lengthy. With the length of recovery and amount of rehabilitation that will be necessary, my brother will likely be without a paycheck for some time, and the bills will soon be coming.

There have been some complications due to internal bleeding and swelling, which have been difficult hurdles to cross.

The Expenses

The expenses are still up in the air at this time. We know for sure that there will be a considerable bill from the Air transport, and he is still currently in the ICU with a 6 hour surgery scheduled.

The Goal

The goal I've set is in hopes to help with expenses for medical costs, as well as covering some of their regular bills while my brother is unable to work. We hope to help prevent anxiety and stress from the financial aspect of this situation so he can focus on getting well.

We are grateful for your prayers as we start this long journey .
