Homeless Senior Citizen, Robert C.

Robert is a 62 year old homeless man who has been living on the streets of East Dallas for over almost half a year. I would always walk past him walking my dog; he always had a smile on his face and never asked me for money. Robert touched my heart with his positivity and his innocence.
One day I decided to sit and talk with Robert to get to know him and buy him a meal. I asked him quite a few questions and right from the start I could tell he was a genuine person.
With some encouragement from some of my peers, I decided to document part of Robert's story with the hopes of getting him off the streets, and in a position of self sufficiency. Robert doesn't know that the video will also be used to help him get off the streets.
Robert has 3 main problems that are holding him back from getting a job:
1.) Robert has applied to over 10 places and almost all of the managers have told him the same thing: you have to have a residence to get hired.
2.) Multiple managers also requested he have a phone so that they could contact him.
3.) Robert is hard of hearing. When interviewing him, communication was a very obvious barrier. His hearing goes in and out ever since he was hit by a car.
I strongly believe in Robert. All he wants is a job and to give back. In our documentary, Robert explains he wants to work and also help other homeless people. If we all came together and helped him get back on his feet, I'm so positive he would be self sufficient after 3 months.
The amount of our goal is for the items below:
- 3 Months of rent, utilities, and time to look for a job
- A pre-paid phone so Robert can be contacted
- Hearing aid consultation and hearing aids
- Clean clothes, and a pair of shoes
- Bed for his temporary space
Robert is part of our movement, Humanizing the Homeless. We want to inspire people through our documentaries and help society revisit their perspectives on the homeless.
