Humane Society turns to Community for Support

This past October, the Humane Society Yukon (HSY) Board was brought to court to defend our right to investigate harassment complaints at the shelter. Even though the courts ruled in our favour and awarded us compensation for a small part of our legal fees, this unjustified lawsuit has put the shelter in a difficult financial position.
The HSY board, like all Yukon employers, has a responsibility to investigate harassment complaints. The law and our values tell us that providing a harassment free environment at the Mae Bachur Animal Shelter is not optional. However, these principles come at a hefty cost as not all of our fees are covered by insurance.
Like most NGO's, HSY operates on very tight budgets. The recent legal expenses have had a negative impact on our financial resources used to cover vet appointments, emergency surgeries, medication, shelter improvements and other unforeseen expenses.
We are asking for your help to offset these costs and make sure that the animals continue to receive the care they deserve.
