This past year, the Rams had an incredible regular season, along with a great playoff run. After only a few practices, we all became very close and gelled as a team, attributing to our success. We placed 6th during the regular season, qualified for the playoffs for the first time in team history, and we even won our first ever playoff game! A great run ended with a 3-2 loss to eventual OIWFA runner-up Laurier, placing Ryerson in a tie for 5th overall in Ontario! We are getting ready for a successful 2018 fall season, with fundraising initiatives and winter training already underway.
Our Story:
We are the Ryerson Rams Fastpitch team! We are entering our third season this upcoming September. We compete in the Ontario Intercollegiate Women’s Fastpitch Association (OIWFA) against other Ontario Universities. This past season, we finished 5th out of a total of 11 teams. Not bad considering we placed 9th in our inaugural year and this was only our second season!
We feel this is just the beginning. Our returning players for 2018 have started training to stay on top of their game and develop their skills with our strong coaching staff. With the help of some great new additional team members, we are looking to build upon our foundation and create a sustainable and everlasting Fastpitch program at Ryerson University.
As a Ryerson University club team, our funding comes solely from our team member’s fundraising efforts. During the 2017 season, we launched a number of successful fundraising campaigns, including a GoFundMe page, as part of our drive to offset the costs of field maintenance equipment, game and team equipment (such as uniforms, balls and bases, etc.), field permits, league and umpire fees as well as team travel.
As the new 2018 Fastpitch season approaches, we are already working tirelessly to generate the funds we need to compete in the OIWFA. Our goal is to fundraise enough money to cover the team costs for the upcoming season and have some funds left over to start to build financial stability for our team’s future.
We are actively seeking Sponsors and support from the community, but have currently fallen short of our fundraising goals. So we have taken to the Internet! We are asking for support from friends, family and anyone who is interested in being a part of the rise of a strong, new and exciting Fastpitch team at Ryerson. All funds raised go directly to the cost of running our team! No donation is too big or too small.
With everyone’s support we can live to fight for another season! Go Rams Go!
