Winter is Right Around the Corner. . .  For The Homeless, That's An Uneasy Thought!

Pastor David Donahue used Matthew 25:14-30 as his text in a recent sermon, the parable of the talents (read). He talked about how those who received five talents and two talents used and multiplied theirs, and Jesus said, "Well done good and faithful servant." However, the one who received only one talent hid it and Jesus said, "you wicked and lazy servant." At the end of the service, our Pastor challenged the congregation by passing out fifty - $100 bills and asked us to go outside our comfort zone and increase those funds by using that money to further our mission cause. God entrusted me with one of those $100 bills and I am so excited to have the opportunity to fulfill this Kingdom Assignment.

Since the health and well-being of homeless families and individuals is a passion of mine, I have chosen the Manassas Hope for the Homeless Hypothermia Shelter as my mission. Housed in the Manassas Baptist Church, the Hope for the Homeless Hypothermia Shelter is a partnership of 13 area churches.   The shelter was established during the uncommonly cold and severely dangerous polar vortex of 2012.   In addition to providing shelter and warm meals in extremely cold weather, donations provide blankets, sleeping bags, firewood and personal items such as prescriptions, socks, clothing, etc.

I have made a $100 investment to this worthy cause. I encourage you to consider this as a mission of yours and to match my contribution, or any donation you desire.  Winter is coming!  Your gift of any amount could make it possible for one more homeless person to have a safe, warm place to sleep when the coldest nights of winter hit. You may even save a life!
