Approximately six weeks ago German Jimmy McClintock suddenly was not able to breathe—nearly suffocating. He rushed to the ER only to be told the diagnosis was throat cancer. The ER doctor took as much of the cancerous area as he could for the biopsy and immediately told Jimmy to set up a doctor’s appointment with an ENT to discuss tests and treatment. What started in his voicebox, had gradually spread to his throat and esophagus over time. A couple of days later, Jimmy met with an ENT to discuss results and next steps for treatment.
The result is Stage 3 throat cancer with recommended chemotherapy and radiation treatments to be started stat. Jimmy was told by the ENT that if treatment isn’t started ASAP, the growth in his throat will cause suffocation that will get to him before the cancer does. He was given weeks if not just a few months. The urgency is real, and time is critical. Truth be told, there is no time to waste.
Unfortunately there have been many caveats over the last six weeks that have prevented Jimmy from getting started on the treatment he needs—however step by step each challenge is being addressed, but the journey continues. Jimmy qualified and was approved by MAP for health insurance. He also met with Seton Cancer Care where they moved him to emergency status to immediately get in and start treatment. However, he was told he had a few bad teeth that needed to be removed to prevent infection chemo/radiation can cause. After researching and finding dentists who take MAP—Jimmy found one and had several teeth removed on 10/02 and finished on 10/05.
Jimmy started his radiation on 10/07 and had his first triple dose of chemo on 10/09, he will continue to have radiation daily and his next triple dose of chemo is scheduled for 10/30 following with radiation and last triple dose of chemo around 11/20. So far,  Jimmy is feeling pretty good, but the side effects will soon start to hit him and he will be unable to work.
Medical bills will need to be paid despite insurance coverage. All donations will be used directly for Jimmy’s continuous care of medical and living costs.
Jimmy is determined to fight this cancer, and his perseverance, strength and positive attitude has shown us all why we are pulling together to help our dear friend who we love with all of our hearts.
So with that, we say THANK YOU to each and every one of you for your donations, support and prayers. The benefit held at Sherlock’s was a success!! Total earned to date is $16,345.00!! Thank you!!! Updates will be provided through this GoFundMe account to keep everyone in the loop on Jimmy’s journey.
