Chris's Medical Fund

My oldest brother desperately needs your help.

Chris is 63. He and his wife Roslyn (Roz)  live on a small acreage near Dubbo. He has worked hard all of his life.

On 20th March last year while participating in a Blackdog Charity ride, he was severely injured when he crashed his motorbike.  Chris nearly died. He suffered a stroke that affects his left arm and leg and sustained other multiple injuries, including broken limbs. After the accident he was placed in an induced coma for many weeks in the hopes that his body could recover.

As a contractor Chris has not been paid since the accident.

Incredibly it got worse. When Chris was brought out of his induced coma, he woke to learn his sister-in-law (my wife) was diagnosed with Mesothelioma - a very aggressive and terminal cancer. This news caused many set-backs in Chris’s recovery.

On 22nd July 2016, Chris was found unconscious in his hospital bed and transferred to a surgical hospital where it was found that one of his legs were terribly infected.

When Chris awoke this time, more heartbreaking news was awaiting him.  Our only sister, Lynne, had passed away unexpectedly. Sadly because of his condition, he could not attend her funeral in Gunnedah.

Unbelievably more tragedy occurred in December. His wife Roslyn entered hospital for a hip replacement due to unbearable pain. Astonishingly, Roz was diagnosed with breast cancer which had now spread to her bones. To this date she has completed a course of radiation therapy.

So now, Chris is being sent home. After nearly 12 months in hospital and hundreds of hours of rehab, he is still unable to walk and is confined to a wheel chair. But he has made incredible progress. He can transfer himself from his bed to a chair which allows him some independence. But with Roz still fighting her cancer diagnosis it will be very difficult for both him and his wife to face their new realities. Gratefully his house can and will be adapted to accommodate his disability.

Thankfully Chris has been given an electric wheel chair that affords him mobility, especially around his small farm. But this also creates a problem - he needs to return to hospital frequently for ongoing physio in the hopes that one day he can regain all of his movement. Obviously, he is unable to drive and taxi fares are expensive.

This is how you can help.  Your kind donation will help fund these trips or purchase a second hand disability vehicle that can transport him for these necessary regular appointments.

Thank you for reading this - any assistance is greatly appreciated to help our family and my brother through these tough times.
