Keep Jahnine at Howard

Peace, all. My name is Jahnine Stone and I am currently trying to pursue my education at Howard University. I left my one bedroom apartment and classic green Honda in Sacramento, California to fly across the country and pursue my dreams. My journey to get to Howard was rough, but now that I am here, the journey is by far the most difficult it has been. My mother, a single parent, is unable to take out a $25,000 parent loan for my education. Howard University did not give me any financial aid other than personal loans and I received $974 in federal grant money. Summer 2017 I petitioned to file as an independent, so that the entire status of my financial aid would be changed. I was also told that my document was in "review" during the entire summer and that there were other things that could be done to help my financial situation. The day I made it to Howard by myself with all 5 of my suitcases, I was told that there is nothing Howard can do to fund my education. If I am forced to leave Howard because I cannot pay for it, I will be homeless until I can arrange something. I yearn to get my degree from Howard University so that I can give back to middle/ lower class students like me who end up getting set back by the system. I need support, guidance and love in order to stay here at the Mecca. This is my dream and I will do whatever I can until it is a reality.
