House Fire Recovery for Commerfords

Donation protected
A great deal of tragedy has befallen a very beloved family in Gilsum, New Hampshire. On the evening of Saturday, June 9th, 2018, the home of Jack and Sarah Commerford, and their daughter, Rachel, went up in flames during a grilling accident.

We are beyond grateful that Sarah, the only person home at the time of the fire, managed to escape to safety unscathed, along with the family cat, Po, who was first presumed dead, but then discovered alive the next morning and is now receiving veterinary care. Save for the contents of one safe, which contained vital paperwork and birth certificates, virtually all of the Commerfords worldly possessions within their home were destroyed beyond hope of salvage.

To compound the loss, the fire completely destroyed Sarah's vehicle, which included $200 worth of groceries and essentials for her family, plus payments for the rent and her daughter's vehicle.  A second vehicle also took heavy cosmetic damage, and other nearby fixtures were damaged or destroyed. The house fire came right on the heels of another tragedy the day before, when the family dog, Ruger, died unexpectedly after having been struck by a vehicle.  The garden where Ruger enjoyed playing and laying, and is now buried, has been reduced to dried, brittle brown matter.

The family is reeling in the wake of these disasters, scarcely able to catch a breath. While there was a home-owner's insurance policy in place, this only protects the landlord's loss of property, not theirs.

To know the Commerford family is to love them. They are genuine souls; selfless, courageous, brimming with love for their family, friends, neighbors, and greater community and country. After so much of their lives devoted to serving the needs and dreams of others-and to now be in a place of great need and on the receiving end of aid themselves- feels perpendicular to their naturally giving spirits.

Together, we can show the Commerfords that the best things about them were not lost in the fire; that they can rise out of this forge under the burden of so much hammering, to dust off the ashes, stronger than ever before.

Your donation, be it a large or small sum, will be greatly appreciated and help to replace their most essential furnishings, clothing, and other material goods lost, in addition to helping with costs associated with the uncertainty of their living situation.
