Hospital costs polytrauma accident

It was a cold evening in December and I was in a taxi in Romania, when my phone rang and an unknown person told me that my brother just had a car accident and he will be taken to a hospital. I rushed to the hospital and waited in the emergency room hallway for information. A nurse called me to see him and to quickly sign an approval for an emergency surgery to stop his internal bleeding.
The surgery that night stopped the bleeding, another surgery was performed 48 hours later, but his situation did not improve, with the doctors struggling to diagnose correctly his polytrauma case. After a few weeks, they finally discovered the problem and they had to perform another emergency surgery. One and a half months went by and his situation was on the edge. While he was still in the intensive care unit, he developed a huge back decubitus ulcer that got infected with a number of strong bacteria resistant to antibiotics, due to the lack of proper care in the local hospital. The situation got desperate, with unclear diagnosis, so we looked for a hospital abroad that could take over his case. We hardly got an approval to transfer him to a Vienna hospital in January with an intensive care plane. The transfer was risky, as he was still in critical condition.
He is in Vienna now for three months, his situation is improving, but it will take a long time for him to recover, he needs one more surgery to close the back wound. He has made it this far due to his strong character, he is a brave man, very kind and generous, a great father to four chidren, a very hard worker and a mountain sports enthusiast.
