This past Saturday I had to call 911 and be rushed to SMH following my surgery March 2nd. They detected 2 artery leaks and a large rectus sheath hematoma in my abdomin. It’s been very scary and I’m thankful I called.
Within the space of a year I have had two major surgeries on my aorta. My first surgery to replace a valve was 25 years ago. I suffer from Marfan syndrome which is a connective tissue disorder. This last aneurysm and its subsequent repair came four years earlier than the doctors expected and I'm currently in the hospital with a large hematoma. My daughter Courtenay has been incredibly supportive but this is taken a lot out of her and she's running on empty. I need Care at home as well as a nurse and Courtenay desperately needs some of the burden taken off of her shoulders. The fund would be used for housekeeping services as well as a nurse as I will still be at risk once I am released from the hospital and need to be monitored. I also need a coagulating machine as well a hemoglobin machine and strips to closely monitor The thickness of my blood because I’m highly susceptible to strokes. Additionally my blood needs to be monitored vigilantly because I’m very susceptible to leaks which put me in danger bleeding out or forming hematomas.
The same is true if my blood is too thick. I was lucky to have them find and be able to dissolve a blood clot that formed in my lung after this last surgery.
The emotional stress that my children have been through as well as the stress I have felt in not knowing whether or not I will have enough care and supervision when I am released has been overwhelming. We would greatly appreciate any support that would allow me to hire people to care and monitor me and purchase the machines that are necessary as well as take care of some of the housekeeping in order that Courtenay doesn't completely burn out.
