HOMES FOR WHITE SULPHUR SPRINGS

On June 23, 2016, West Virginia was flooded by 10 inches of rain that caused devastating flash flooding.  More than 2,000 homes were destroyed.  Most of the 23 fatalities occurred in Greenbrier County. Thousands of additional homes need repairs for flood damage, leaking roofs, flooded basements, and black mold. The aftermath is heartbreaking and many families continue to suffer physically and emotionally from the catastrophe. Approximately 40% of families’ income is less than $20,000 annually. After the flood, FEMA received over 8,000 applications for assistance in West Virginia.  Many non-governmental organizations have been instrumental in responding to the needs of these West Virginia citizens including Homes for White Sulphur Springs/Hope Village.
Homes for White Sulphur Springs/Hope Village has had a very successful 6 months of fundraising, building and repairing homes for families in White Sulphur Springs.  While much has been done in Greenbrier County there is much more to do in the county and the state to provide shelter to families impacted by this Flood.  


The labor for building and repairing the homes is a gift from Mennonite Disaster Service, Storm-Aid, Appalachia Service Project, and numerous volunteer organizations. The vast majority of our fundraising dollars are being spent to purchase construction materials for these volunteer organizations.  Your donation will help repair many existing homes and provide materials to build over 25 new homes in  Hope Village.
