Hope for SAL

On Monday, April 11, 2016 our life was shattered. My husband, my best friend, and an amazing father was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML). Salvador is loved by so many.  Anyone who knows him knows that he is hard worker, a loyal friend and a man dedicated to his family. Sal served as a police officer in Puerto Rico for 7 years putting the safety of others above his own. At the time he was diagnosed with leukemia, he was working for the U.S. Postal Service.

The news is surely devastating whether you know Sal or not at all. Sal has been on treatment since he was diagnosed. He spent almost 7 months in the hospital with chemotherapy treatments fighting this cancer. He also underwent a surgery to place a defibrillator in his heart because he suffered a cardiac arrest. Sal was in remission for a couple of months, but he relapsed again. Even though he has gone through so much, he is hopeful that things are going to get better and that he will be able to take care of his family again. His main concern is our son, daughter and our grandkids. Sal wants to see our younger son graduate from college, get his first professional job, and get married.

After so many chemotherapy treatments, Sal’s only hope now is a bone marrow transplant. He is not working at this moment and will not be able to work for a long time. After teaching and serving the youth of our community for 44 years, I will have to take a Federal Medical Leave without pay from my teaching job to take care of him. Our son is going to enter his last year of college with plans to continue studying to obtain a master degree in Accounting. The medical bills, treatments and medication costs keep piling up. Our debt at this moment is over $150 ,000. The bone marrow transplant is a very expensive procedure with many more added costs after it is completed.

I want everyone to know how special Sal is and to know how appreciated a donation of any amount would be. We are praying and keeping our hope alive. We are asking for any help you feel you can give to bless Sal and our family as we embark on this emotional and financially stressful journey. We believe in miracles. We have both dedicated our lives to serving others; now we are asking for your help. Please consider donating whereas all proceeds will go directly to Sal's medical bills, care, and his long road to recovery. Thank you for your love, support and generosity toward our family. May God bless you and bring Hope for Sal through this journey.  #hopeforsal.

Nunca hemos pedido ayuda a nadie y no hemos solicitado nada.
