Honoring Private Henry Mack

I am from Victoria, TX and we recently went through Hurricane Harvey . In that time we had about 20"s of rain. So needless to say it took quite a bit of time for everything to dry up to mow. So this past Friday (10/13/17) I was mowing a fence line in my pasture next to my house. I stopped when my mower hit something hard. I got out and looked and it looked like a brick so I went to pick it up and move it but I couldn't. I noticed it's odd shape so I got some water and wash the exposed piece. To my surprise it was a headstone with the name Henry Mac and a bunch of letters and numbers. So not knowing what they meant I called a buddy who is our local historian. He told me that Henry Mack was a Union soldier who was a part of Maryland 's 7th Regiment (company H) of the United States Colored Infantry.
So many emotions ran through me at once.
But the main one was that a Veteran from our country has been missing but now he is found. No Veteran should be denied honor and certainly deserves to have his place of rest marked and respected.
Whether we are from the north or south all of the Civil War troops were OUR TROOPS.
We found out that Henry was a slave in Maryland and joined the Union army to become a free man. Just the bravery and guts of that one move shows how much guts this man had.
So I have always considered myself a patriot and now I want to be able to honor another patriot.
So I initially posted my plans on Facebook and it blew up. I want to build Henry Mack a memorial. A place where his headstone will never fall again and I want to put a flag pole on this memorial. So I started pricing things and it's going to cost some money that quite frankly I don't have. So a friend recommended that I start this page. I put 3000.00 cause hopefully that will cover concrete, a fence and a flag pole.
