Holocaust/Genocide Memorial Garden

I am a 10th Grade World History teacher for a Title One High School in our District. My classes are made up of a wide mix of students, from all backgrounds. I have found that their knowledge of the Holocaust and other Genocides that have occurred is minimal at best.
During this school year I introduced the Holocaust to them and they were very excited to learn about it. We completed a project on Kristallnacht, which was turned in to the Florida Atlantic University Center for Holocaust and Human Rights Education. Our submission earned me the Gutterman Family Oustanding Holocaust Educator of the Year for 2016_2017.
My students have continued their excitement in learning about the Holocaust, so I suggested to my classes that we create a garden to memorialize the Holocaust. My students suggested that we include as many known Genocides as well. So the idea of creating a Holocaust and Genocide Memorial Reflection Garden, to be planted at our school for all students, teachers and visitors to see, was born.
To create this garden, we will need the following:
1. Plants, to include white roses, butterfly generating plants and ground cover $500.00
2. Bricks, which my students will paint the names of the genocides of the 20th and 21st century, to be laid within the garden $150.00
3. Retaining Wall bricks, to be used as the background of the garden, creating a small walled raised space for the garden $100.00
4. 16" square patio pavers, to be used as walkways within the garden $100.00
5. Topsoil $ 25.00
6. Wood latice, for bouganvillea to grow on $ 50.00
7. Garden tools $100.00
8. Water and snacks for my students, since they are the ones that will be building the garden $200.00
8. If funding is sufficient, a fountain within
the garden $179.00
9. Pump for above fountain, if not included
with fountain $ 60.00
I have a limited time to reach my goal, as explained below. I would like at least a week prior to April 24, 2017 to have the funds, so I have time for my students to create the garden. I would like to complete this garden prior to April 24, 2017, in time for the International Yom HaShoah remembrance. This will generate news coverage in our area, as a press conference will be arranged for the opening of our garden. I already have the support of a local area rabbi, as well as the support from the School District of Palm Beach County and Florida Atlantic University. I will also be reaching out to the Boca Raton office of the United States Holocaust Memorial and Museum as well as the Florida Holocaust Museum.
My students are very excited about this project and look forward to creating beauty out of an area that is just grass. They are excited about the prospect of creating a lasting memorial on campus that acknowledges the atrocities of man, but can bring some beauty.
