Hands of Love Educational Center is located in Kariobangi, an urban slum in Kenya, Africa. It was founded by Terry Little.
I am a member of the HOL USA Board of Directors, and Williston Central School is forging a sister School Alliance with Hands of Love Educational Center. Last year, through our fund raising efforts, we were able to ensure that one child with severe eye injuries got the medical care he needed to saeve his vision.
This year, thanks to the successful fund raising efforts by fellow Board members in Indiana, about half of the students attending Hands of Love were able to get new shoes. The director, writes:
We have been able to buy new school shoes for 85
children (slightly more than half the school population). We bought these shoes at Bata Shoes Company factory shop in the scenic Limuru some 40 kilometres from Nairobi. The trips to buy shoes also served the purpose of getting the kids away from the slum to a place where they could run around, play and generally have fun. Providing shoes to the children means a lot to them and their families. The past few weeks all the talk at the
centre has been about the shoes and the trips. Kids who are yet to get shoes (about 75) are wondering when they will get theirs ...A good pair of shoes may not mean
much to a lot of people, but for our kids it is a amenity their families usually cannot afford. Many of these kids come from families living hand-to-mouth and often miss out on things that most people take for granted.
Williston Central School (Grades 3 and 4) in Williston, Vermont is launching this campaign to raise enough funds so the other half of the student body at Hands of Love Educational Center can have new shoes and a fun field trip to Limuru, Kenya.
