We are a loving couple, making plans to get engaged this year, and just settling in to our new apartment. We had plans on starting college this fall and building our future. We have a roommate living alongside us through this as well.
Around July 20th, Cecil got very sick with flu like symptoms, nausea, night sweats, and then severe lymphoid swelling over the span of 10 days. He saw his regular doctor and was placed on antibiotics. He continued to get worse, and a coworker recommended that he go to the hospital right away. So we went that day. We spent hours upon hours waiting, doing CT scans and bloodwork until we were finally given a room. That's when they told us it may be cancer.
My mother has been a nurse for around 15 years now and has been making sure everything has been going smoothly by calling the doctors and reading over his results. The first night at the hospital, while Cecil was asleep, she told me that he was showing very classic signs of Hodgkins Lymphoma. She told us this before any of the doctors brought it up with us, and she was right.
Cecil has no insurance currently. He started a new, full-time job in June and would have been eligible for health benefits September 1st.
He had to stop working his full-time job and my mother had to pay for our half of the rent that month during the hospital stay. He is in the process of applying for medical assistance. Right now there is the cost of seeing doctors at appointments to get his official diagnosis and start proper treatment, as well as figure out the stage of the cancer.
Because of all this financial stress (the worst hasn't even happened yet, I'm sure) we had to start this fundraiser to help pay for appointments, cover rent, and buy groceries.
We never expected cancer to happen. Cecil has been through an extremely hard life of homelessness, foster care, adoption, .... and now this? Please help us through this.
