His Hope Uganda Accident

First, a huge thank you to everyone. The response has been simply unbelievable. The messages of love and support for Kimi, Anna and their families has been overwhelming. We all feel truly humbled.
For those that are still unaware, on Wednesday night (early Thursday morning) around 12am Uganda time, several staff from HHU were traveling home from the airport when the HHU vehicle was struck on the right side by a drunk driver of a semi truck. Kimi and Anna are currently in the hospital with non-life threatening injuries. Both girls suffered severe lacerations to the face and head and are being monitored for internal injuries. Jordan was miraculously uninjured.
It is with a truly heavy heart that we share that we have lost Gloria, Joshua and Uncle Eman. Although we believe they are with the Lord and that does bring some comfort, their loss will be felt heavily as their lives touched so many.
As we have received so many offers to help, we decided to put together this page to outline the ways you can all help.
1. We know all the families involved would first and foremost ask for your prayers. Despite the pain and devastation we believe that the Lord is our healer both physically and emotionally. We cannot fathom or attempt to understand the tragedies of life sometimes but we know He is sovereign and his love reigns. Please join us in prayer to lift up those that are hurting. Pray for healing. Pray for peace.
2. Practically speaking there are going to be costs involved in this process and we wanted to outline what those are as best we can anticipate. If you feel led to help in this way, we know it would go a long way.
Some of the costs we know HHU and the families involved will be facing are:
1. Medical costs for Anna and Kimi which we are estimating at around $5000. There is a good chance much of these costs will be covered by insurance but we aren't sure yet.
2. There will also be the costs of the burials which we estimate to be around $1500.
3. Since the organization has lost its vehicle, they will be in need of a replacement. We estimate the cost to be around $15,000.
4. There will be some costs associated with providing accommodations and meals for several Ugandan men and women who have been helping the families navigate the hospitals, the language barrier and the city driving. We estimate this to be around $1500.
5. Travel costs for Anna’s brother Tim, who has flown in to be with her.
6. Although I'm sure Gary & Shirley are going to try and make us take this out, many of you have asked if you can contribute to helping them cover the cost of last-minute flights for them. So the compromise is that we are not including those costs in our goal, but if there is extra we will try to make them accept some of it... wish us luck.
Any leftover funds will be donated to the HHU medical fund so they can provide life saving measures to those in need.
The funds given will be handled by Shirley Toyota (Kimi’s mother) who as most of you know manages operations for His Hope Uganda from the Canadian end. She will ensure the funds are properly distributed based on the goals outlined above.
