Hey there! My name is Brady and I am a 17-year-old senior at BASIS Oro Valley in Tucson, Arizona. Beginning this February I am thru-hiking the 800-mile Arizona Trail to benefit the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. I am doing this largely in part of my good friend Nic, who has lived with the Cystic Fibrosis his whole life.

Cystic Fibrosis is a genetically inherited disease that causes a thick, buildup of mucus in the lungs, pancreas and other organs. When mucus builds up in the lungs bacteria can get trapped, leading to infections, lung damage and eventually respiratory failure. The mucus buildup in the pancreas can lead to the prevention of releasing of enzymes that help digest food, making it hard for the body to digest vital nutrients.  Some CF patients have to go as far as being fed through tubes or having lung replacements by their 20s. Due to all the possible complications, the average age for a CF patient is only around 35, but many patients never make it to the age of 10.

I'm good friends with a boy that has this condition. I met him at church and have been friends ever since. Nic has lived his entire life with this condition. Before meeting Nic I had never heard of Cystic Fibrosis, and I've learned a lot from him, Nic has to go through treatment 3 times a day. He must wear this vest that vibrates his lungs for about 20 minutes, every single day.

What I love about Nic is how full of life he is, he has not allowed this condition to sap his spirit in the least. He genuinely one of the kindest, most friendly guys I've ever met. Thinking about the struggle and burden he has to live with breaks my heart. Nic is one of the luckier ones who should live a fairly full life, till around 60, but hundreds of thousands of people are living with this condition and are not as fortunate as Nic.

This is why I've started this fundraiser. I am going to hike the Arizona trail for charity. The Arizona national Scenic Trail is an 800-mile trail stretching throughout Arizona, comparable to the better known Appalachian Trail. The Trail weaves its way from the Mexican-American border to the Utah-Arizona Border, over 800 miles in all. Currently, no minor has ever completed in its entirety, I would like to be the first. I am beginning my trip mid-February and should finish 2 months after.

This hike will give me the opportunity to raise awareness as well as gain funding for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, the leading program in research and outreach to CF patients. All donations made to me and my hike will go directly to the CFF. If you would rather donate directly to the CFF visit https://www.cff.org/ then select donate. I would appreciate donations directly to my campaign, simply to record how much I have helped raise. All money given to me is going directly to the campaign but if you do not trust me, please give directly to the campaign, any donations, whether through me or otherwise help patients of CF. Thank you for reading and thank you for your donation.
