Hike to Heal, An Outdoor Education Scholarship

Donation protected
I'm Leah, and I'm new to eating disorder recovery.  It was a long time coming, my disorder a coping mechanism developed by time and worsened by the societal pressure that equates thinness with worthiness.

As part of my own healing journey, I’ve elected to practice the process of "one step at a time" an approximate 5.3 million times.  As I walk from Mexico to Canada on the Pacific Crest Trail, I’m fundraising for people like me who struggle and lack the financial resources to facilitate the understanding of their own embodied strength.

I know resources for eating disorder recovery can be challenging to locate and financially hard to come by.  The same goes for the opportunities to build a relationship with your body and to learning to challenge yourself. Thus, Wild and Weightless is the organization that speaks directly to my heart, focusing on a mission of "promoting positive body image and confidence through outdoor adventures".

This fundraiser is to sponsor a few women or young adults, to attend a Wild and Weightless clinic by way of scholarship.

It is down trails and over slickrock that I’ve become a certain type of person. The kind of person who chooses something difficult in order to see something greater. The kind of person who will bear weight in order to  become unyielding. It’s about teaching yourself to put one foot in front  of the other in the face of struggle and to keep going. It’s about  learning to lean into uncomfortable situations that will make you  stronger. It’s about an opportunity to grow, think, and process, and  amazingly you end up in some of the world’s most beautiful places.

I want any woman who wants this opportunity to have access to it. To hold the world in her hands and connect it to her soul. It's saved me more times than I can count, and I want to help bring this light to another life.

As I hike, I ask you to dig deep and ask yourself, "Am I willing to help bring this experience to someone who seeks it?"

If you find even the smallest voice saying "yes", please contribute to our cause.  Attending a Wild and Weightless events offers a chance to work with a diverse group of women playing to their strengths, including founder Kristen Ales, who holds a Master's Degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling with a concentration in Wilderness Therapy.

Your donation will go directly to a sponsorship, enabling 3-4 applicants to participate in a body acceptance and climbing/multi-sport workshop. This will cover the full cost of their experience. Any additional funds will go to developing Wild and Weightless as a platform for change.

You can follow the journey via Instagram, where we'll also announce when you can begin applying for the scholarships.
