Braden and Jade go to Guatemala!

It is that time of year again! I am preparing for my next trip to Guatemala to build houses. This year I am especially excited because Jade (who is now 14) is coming with me!!! I can hardly wait. But we have to fundraise for 2. :)

As many of you know, I have been traveling to Guatemala annually. This will be my 5th trip. Each year we visit a different village to build houses for widows and orphans, the victims of the decades-long genocide that ended in 1996. It will take many lifetimes for these people to recover.

At first, I wondered why we were spending money on flights and not just sending the money to Guatemala. But the widows tell us why every year. They say that we show them that there is still good in the world, that people care, that God loves them. They want us to hear their stories and carry them back with us to tell others. If you would like to hear a story, watch this short video. The sad thing is, I have heard much worse than what this poor woman has been through:

On March 7th, a group of us, (mostly) from Bryson City, NC, will on hop on a plane to Guatemala City and then take a 10-hour bus ride up into the Ixil Triangle (pronounced Isheal). With the help of our Guatemalan friends, we visit the poorest villages and help those with the most need. We are going on 1 of 3 trips scheduled for this year, and we plan to build 15-18 houses just on our trip. We also give them high efficiency/low smoke stoves so that the women do not have to build fires on their dirt floors. We bring blankets, clothing, gardening tools, and if we raise enough money we bring them livestock so they have a source of income.

Jade and I greatly appreciate your support be it financially and/or prayer and love. Those who have supported me will never know the impact they have had on my heart. I carry you all, and the people of Guatemala with me daily. There is no real way to express the gratitude I feel.

This trip, these people, have changed my life forever, and I look forward to seeing it through Jade's eyes.

If you want to know more about the war and what it is like to live in Guatemala, I encourage you to watch the documentary Living On One Dollar. You can find it on Youtube and Amazon Prime.
