Hero Labradors Service Dogs
Hero Labradors was founded by a disabled veteran and service dog owner who recognized a need in the pipeline for service dogs that wasn't being met: there are few (if any) breeders that are selecting for the qualities that make a good service dog. This often leaves training programs looking for sources of dogs of the caliber required to perform service tasks, and leaves wounded warriors, disabled veterans, and injured first resopnders who could benefit from service dogs waiting.
We aim to change that.
Hero Labradors' mission is to breed and select Labrador Retrievers of the highest quality, possessing the aptitude for service dog training, and to provide these dogs at no cost to service dog training programs.
Selected programs agree to train and provide these dogs at no cost to disabled American Veterans, their Families, the Military Community, and First Responders.
Ways your donation can help:
Feeding our dogs
Purchasing equipment for heating/cooling our kennel (we're in Texas, and cooling becomes an issue in the spring through late fall.)
Veterinary care--while we are working to establish coverage donated through local veterinarians to who donate their services, we still need topay for routine care of our dogs and puppies, to include vaccinations, hip/elbow/eye certification, DNA screening, and costs for breeding/insemination.
Transportation of our pups to training programs.
All funds will go to Hero Labradors for the operation of the charity and care of the dogs. Hero Labradors does NOT have paid employees, only volunteers.
Make a difference for Hero Labradors today!
As a nonprofit, Hero Labradors is powered by the generosity of our supporters. With less than 48 hours until the new year, now is the time to make a difference to Hero Labradors.
Your gift of $10, $25, $50, $75, or whatever you can give will go a long way in helping us further our mission of breeding pups for service dogs.
All gifts received by midnight on December 31 will be tax-deductible for the 2017 tax year.
She's headed to the @PuppyJakeFoundation in late January. Now she'll have her papers to go with her!
Thank you everyone who contributed this year, and hopefully will contimue to support us in the years to come. YOU are the ones who made this happen. YOU are the ones who are putting these pups in the service of our nation's heroes. YOU are the ones responsible for making our heroes lives better, for helping them recover and overcome hardships. I just pick up poo and let my feet get chewed on.
And we have been busy! This year saw us building runs and pens in the kennel this spring and summer, taking time off for rescuing animals after Hurricane Harvey this summer, and breeding a litter this fall, and raising Ripley to go off to the Puppy Jake foundation in January 18.
Next Spring looks to be just as busy, with our big event being the AKC All-Breed Show in Henderson, Nevada at the end of March. We aren't competing, we're showcasing our dogs, and looking to attract sponsors and maybe partners in this great endeavor!
Nani and Polar Bear's first breeding will also occur in late spring. (or whenever Nani decides to be ready) If that goes well, and it should, then Pups are going to Smoky Mountain Labradors in Tennessee, K9sForWarriors in Florida, and two companion pups going to families of our fallen. There are even more organizations waiting in the wings for our pups! We have grown very much in the past year, and looking to grow even more in the next. We are going to add (with your help) insulation and climate control to the kennel, and we are looking for a van to take the pups to their trainers and everywhere else!
We can get there, but we need your help, so if you'd like a holiday charity to support, or need a year-end tax shelter, or need a way to make this world a better place by seeing our dogs into the loving arms of veterans and first responders, please consider supporting our continuing mission.
Thanks, and have a wonderful holiday season, Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukkah, Blessed Kwanzaa, or just a good season of love and giving,
