Water invaded Herb & Mary Lou Riley's home due to hurricane Harvey.  They are displaced, and their 3 grown kids (Jeff, Nancy & Megan) are all pitching in to help as much as they can... but there is much to do (see the photos).    Herb & MaryLou will move to Embassy Suites for 2 weeks funded by FEMA - but they did not have flood insurance and are faced with the insurmountable task of mold mitigation, cleanup, and remodeling which will cost over $60K,  and does not start to address the need to replace and/or fix many of their personal belongs.

Herb & Mary Lou and the entire extended family would like to thank everyone who has expressed concern and offered to help.  This Go Fund Me page is created for YOU to help this amazing family who has always opened their doors and hearts to so many people.  I personally have experienced their grace and generosity when I moved in with them for 3+ months when first moving to Houston without a place to stay.

A donation to this fund would not only help them with their immiediate needs but will also give them the boost they need to start the task of rebuilding and recovering from this atrocious storm.

Here's another quote from a dear friend, LisaHickey Baile: "Herb and Mary Lou Riley have well-established history of generously sharing their home with friends and family, always offering their special gift of love and laughter.  It is my privilege to give back to this wonderful couple during their time of need."

I know I had you at "Herb and Mary Lou need our help" -- but if you want a detailed list of some items on the list I asked Nancy to name a few specific things on their to-do list and the related estimates:
- inspection on electrical damage and repair TBD
- inspection on mold and remediation & repair TBD
- house restoration: tile floors, doors, carpet, etc - $40K
- replace furniture, sheets, linens, towels $10-15K
- replace appliances (ruined) - $4000
- professional drywall removal and drying - $4800
- temporary apt while clean-up occurs (unknown if % will be covered by FEMA) -- approx $1,500/month x 3+
- pool drainage and clean up - TBD
- piano needs to be moved ($350) and restored ($600)
- fans & generator ($600)
- grandfather clock restoration ($700)
- dining table restoration ($300)

Thank you so much for boosting their finances and spirits with your contribution.

Hi everyone -- Nancy wanted me to share this message with you:

We are incredibly grateful for the outpouring of help and support. All the trash and debris has finally been removed from their property. That was huge because it was just festering and smelling and a constant reminder of what was lost. Friday the contractor came by to re-apply the mold inhibitor spray and measure moisture levels in the wood framing (now between 15%-20%). It’ll still be several weeks before reconstruction can begin, but they are getting bids to make sure they don’t get ripped off (one bid was an outrageous-seeming $250,000!) They did receive some funding from FEMA that will help meet their needs. (~$25K)

A silver-lining to all this is that my dad is feeling like he has a “purpose” for the first time since his stroke 2 years ago, so that is a blessing.

It will continue to be a long road to get the house back to pre-flood conditions, but they will actually mow the grass for the first time on Monday. All my mom’s beautiful gardens were poisoned by the flood waters, so it will take some time and work to reclaim those.

If anyone has contact with volunteer groups, I know Mary Lou would appreciate help cleaning up and replanting her gardens.

Thank you all for your prayers, friendship and support!
