Michael Zapparoli is a single parent who has two children. A keen rugby fan and local amateur player until the age of 42 and very popular amongst many in his home city of Bath.
On the 13th July 2015 Mike’s life took a tragic turn for the worse. Michael collapsed to the floor at his rented home barely able to move any part of his body but just able to make a call for help on his phone. For several days he had been complaining of terrible pains in the back of his neck.
Mike is suffering from a very rare illness where a bacterial infection caused an abscess in his spinal column at the back of his neck. Surgery to drain the abscess was successful, unfortunately too late to prevent damage to the nerves in his spinal system. As a result Mike became severely paralysed and is now facing a long road to recovery.
After months in Intensive care, and rehabilitation at the Duke of Cornwall Spinal Treatment Centre Salisbury, Mike has made some progress, he’s upbeat, positive and now able to operate an electric wheelchair. He lives in a specially adapted property in Bath and getting on with his life as best as he can.
We can't undo what’s happened to Mike, but with a little help we can make his future better and help towards the cost of his ever demanding needs.
