The Boerman family is a picture of tenacious love and grace in the face of loss.
Carla and Brian lost their son, John in November 2014 after a lengthy, very painful battle with brain and bone cancer. He was a vibrant, creative, talented young man who left an imprint of courage and tenderness on all who knew him. Their strong faith has pointed many to the power of refusing to give in to loss and trusting in a loving Creator.
John's astronomical medical bills decimated much of their life savings and they were still recovering from it when tragedy struck again. Carla was killed on April 4, when the car she was riding in with Brian and their 14-month-old granddaughter was struck by another vehicle in their hometown of Pleasanton, CA. Unfortunately, it appears that the at-fault driver's minimal insurance and assets will be of very little help. They must now also address how to survive without Carla’s teaching salary. In addition to coping with this heartbreaking loss, Brian is still recovering from recent total knee replacement surgery and will not be able to return to work soon due to a traumatic brain injury he sustained in the accident. His full recovery timeline is uncertain.
Carla left a gaping hole in the hearts of all who knew her and the magnitude of loss is evident as the tributes and praise are pouring in from all her circles of influence. She was Vivacious. Hilarious. Accepting. Forgiving. Loving. Strong. Optimistic. And Honest. These are just a few of the adjectives that come to mind when we try to capture her. If you knew her, you were blessed by being in the presence of a living, breathing example of Jesus. Our only consolation is that she is home and reunited with her Jesus and her John-Boy.
She has touched hundreds of lives and because of this, many have reached out, eager to help in a significant way. We are responding to your desire by creating this opportunity for you to do just that...ease the financial burden on Brian, Jake, his wife Cristina and precious Caroline.
