Studio Z Has Moved permanently to Gallery Z on Federal Hill.

For over 33 years, Berge Zobian has introduced local, national and internationally renowned artists to Providence. A highly active contributing member of the Rhode Island business community, he has also operated the popular Gallery Z on Atwells Avenue since 2001.For years, Berge has lent space to nonprofits for their fundraising and has participated in numerous events raising cultural and historical awareness. Looking for larger quarters, Berge made the decision to expand his gallery to the ample space available in the Butcher Block Mill. Now, three-and-a-half years later, the owner of the mill has forced all tenants to move out in order to sell the property to a developer whose plans include turning the renovated building into parking spaces. All other businesses in the complex have obliged and left fearing legal wrangling. Studio Z has instead decided to protest the owner’s ultimatum and speak out.

Before moving into the Butcher Block building, Studio Z created architectural plans resulting in extensive renovations to the space. This entailed seventeen months to convert an empty garage into a contemporary art gallery. Over $120,000.00 to design and build out an entire new space consisting of exhibition rooms, office, track lighting, electrical wiring, art hanging system, film screening and projection, telephone and internet wiring, signage, interior painting, outside lighting, security cameras and alarm system, floor acid staining, and constructing a second floor loft for art storage.
All of these improvements created an excellent art destination.
At its new space in the last two years, Studio Z has:
· Presented over 20 art exhibits and numerous artist talks, performances, film screenings, and art installations.
· Shown over 4,000 pieces of art including paintings, sculptures, collages, video installations, and photography.
· Welcomed well over 10,000 art-loving patrons into the gallery space to appreciate and purchase fine art.
· Participated in Gallery Night Providence, introducing many newcomers to art and art history in our west side neighborhood.
· Helped re-energize this formerly desolate section of Olneyville, attracting artists, art collectors and visitors from other sections of the city and the state and from other nearby states.
· Employed five professionals who administer, curate, hang, examine and sell artwork, while assisting the artists that the gallery helps support and engaging the visiting public.
· Provided an ongoing internship program to students and others, offering the opportunity to learn about the art world, business management and operation, curatorial practices, handling of art works, scheduling and selling, technical and communication skills.
· Received a citation from the Mayor of Providence, Jorge Elorza.
· Hosted other local distinguished figures that are supportive of the arts, including a fundraiser for Congressman David Cicilline.
· Presented the “Centennial Armenian Genocide” exhibit, a large-scale non-profit project throughout the month of April 2015 commemorating the Armenian Genocide. It included multi-media art works, music, poetry readings, film screenings, musicians, playwrights, poets, and performers.
Studio Z is currently in its ninth exhibit of 2015 and has two more exhibits booked. The studio has invested in pre-printing marketing materials, mailings, distribution, and uploads information to its website.

Studio Z is also home to ArtMobile "Moby" who will be homeless without the space. Studio Z also serves as Gallery director Berge Zobian's personal photography studio. His photography equipment was installed during the renovation process and will displace his studio as well as 40+ years of his portfolio inventory.

Studio Z asks you to contribute funds to help recoup its renovation investment and raise funds to pay off a loan, legal fees, moving and storage costs and to dissolve pre-existing service contracts.
Studio Z thanks its friends and associates of many years, loyal customers, and extended Providence art family for their encouragement. With your support, Studio Z will regain its footing and continue with its artistic mission.
