Help Save Mayla

Mayla is our loving, yet stubborn little escape artist. She got hit by a car last night after my roommates’ toddler decided to open the door and accidentally let her out. We are asking for help and support from friends and family. She has a broken front leg, and there was air trapped in her thoracic cavity from both of her lungs being punctured, which required a lung tap, also known as a thoracocentesis, when she arrived last night, and she needed a second one today. If air continues to accumulate again, she will need a chest tube placed. She is going to need surgery to see the extent of the lung damage, and hopefully help repair it if needed. If she pulls through, and survives, she will then need to see a specialist to assist with correcting her leg due to the extent of the damage. There is a lot going on, and the xrays can only show so much, so there may be more internal damage that is not able to currently be seen, but she is in stable enough condition for visits right now, and we just don’t have it in our hearts to put her down right now, and we are trying avoid that unless we have to. The high end of the estimate for everything she needs as of right now is $10,000. The lowest estimate is $7,000, and both of those prices do not include the care she will need from a different vet specialist to fix her broken front leg (That is estimated to be around $3,000).I know the holiday season is upon us and it’s a tight time of year for everyone.
