Help Ranger heal
Ranger fell off a cliff while on a hike with my husband. He has two fractured legs, bruising on his lungs, and some fluid in his abdomen. He has been to two vets already and in the morning I take him to the third vet that will actually be able to do the surgery after they get him more stabilized. He will be in the vets care for several days then once he comes home there will be follow up appointments and possibly physical therapy.+ Read More
Ranger has been doing good lately. We have had a couple days he wouldn't put weight on his front leg with the pins. I think that was because he was licking the bottom pin and irritating things. He is at the Portland vet right now getting two of his pins removed and then we will come back in another 4 weeks to see about the rest and his back leg. It is very doubtful his back leg will be ready to have the plates removed already then but the doctor says we will check just to make sure.
Ranger seems to be doing good at home. We found out he does have a MRSE infection in his back leg around his plate. He has to be on antibiotics for probably 2 months then if the bone has healed enough the doctor has to go back in and remove the plate so the infection doesn't keep coming back. I can't remember if I have mentioned this but when I picked him up last week I was told he also has a broken front tooth. Once he is over with all these infections and surgeries for his legs we will then have to get that tooth pulled. The doctor didn't want him dealing with that at the same time of his legs. Ranger is a strong pup but still can use some prayers to continue to help him get through this.
Ranger came home Thursday morning and seems to be doing good! Just trying to make him rest a lot and only walk a little so he doesn't over use his sore legs. Today is resting in his yard some with his kids.
Today I got the call I have been waiting for! I get to go meet with Ranger's doctor that has been taking great care of him and get his at home care instructions and then I get to bring him home. Now we need prayers that he continues to heal good at home and that I can remember all the instructions and get him to swallow any pills he has to swallow ;) Thank you again everyone that has been following his recovery so far and has been thinking of him and those of you that have donated. Please continue to share our page because he still has the 8 weeks of recovery with follow up appointments and he has been at the current vet for a week and a half longer than expected along with the extra minor surgery of replacing the collapsed pins. I still don't know if the fluid was an infection or not but I will be sure to update tomorrow or early Friday with pictures of him coming home and whatever info I get tomorrow from the doctor.
