A few weeks ago my car got broken into and my trunk was ransacked for my laptop, 5 hard drives, cameras/equipment, and school work
($8431 worth of gear in total).
Nothing valuable was in plain sight.
My notebook of ideas for 2016/school notes was also taken out the side of my door amongst many other items. I bought several harddrives to back up all of my work, as should everyone in the film/photo industry. Hours before the incident I had finished backing up all of my work from the last couple years onto these drives, which were taken that night along with the originals.
I'm supposed to be graduating this month and the past couple weeks have been very stressful. It feels like everything I've worked for is gone. I've done my best to keep a positive attitude through the many ups and downs over the past couple years, using the art that I make as my escape and creative outlet. As fucked up as this loss may be, I have no choice but to keep pushing.
I’m lucky to have put my laptop and camera equipment under insurance before I went to New York in February last year. While my work is irreplaceable, I’m desperately trying to recover my tools in order to create new content for potential job opportunities. My insurance is willing to cover a total of $3,067.81 but I have to pay a $1000 deductible in order to get the $3,067.81. A new laptop/computer alone would take almost all of that money and leaves me with not much to replace my camera equipment. Due to my financial situation, this has made life very difficult for me.
The past few years I have had the weight on my shoulders to help support my family financially and haven't been able to invest much of my own money into my career. The items stolen are what I had been able to invest in myself over past couple years. No matter how frustrating life can be at times, I know I have to push myself through the setbacks, stay positive and move forward. However, the possessions that were stolen were my livelihood. I know I have to keep pushing, and I will continue to do so.
Any donation to help me get back on my feet and help me continue establishing my career to support my family would mean the world to me.
