Dad's Christmas Wish Come True

Our lives took an unexpected turn when our dad- Przemo- was diagnosed with ALS (also known as Lou Gehrig's or Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis) back in 2010 in Chicago Stroger Hospital. After fighting the disease for nearly five years, we now understand that he may be suffering from a similar, undefined MND (Motor Neuron Disease), which symptoms are similar to ALS. The disorder degenerates upper and lower motor neurons essential for speech, movement, breathing, swallowing, and eating, leaving all cognitive functions untouched. What begun as a minor, yet constant twitching on his shoulder, quickly spread across the rest of his body with terrible persistence, degenerating his nerve and muscle tissues, and making everyday life a lot harder. While seeking for more expert opinions, the disease continued to progress, disabling him to work, drive a car, and even safely stay home by himself. While trying several homeopathic and alternative treatments, the medical bills continued to pile up and our parents decided to move back to Poland, where surrounded by a loving family they continue to fight this evil MND. As of today Przemo is entirely paralyzed, supported by a respirator and a feeding tube, and requires a caregiver 24/7- a role fulfilled so bravely by our amazing mom Ela. NONE of this stopped our parents from fighting this rare disease. Thanks to technological advancements, Przemo is able to use a computer and communicate with the outside world. He learned to use graphic design software and creates digital artwork we hope to publish. His willingness to fight the disease and make the best out of this situation is incredible.
The fund will be used towards a high quality laptop that will allow our dad to stay in touch with the outside world, communicate, and continue to expand his horizons in the field of graphic design.  We are hoping that one day cure for different MDSs will be found, and our dad and others suffering from such disorders will get up on their feet again.
