Help Oulen Stay in School!

Hello everyone,

My name is Oulen Bayanmunkh. I am from Mongolia and a rising senior at Mount Holyoke College studying International Relations. I maintain a 3.5 GPA and currently work two part-time jobs on campus while holding leadership position in my current work team. I have worked very hard to come this far and am proud to say that I am making the most out of my college life for I am doing well academically and socially. However, my wish to graduate became almost hopeless as I found myself unable to pay my tuition.

My mother was a strong feminist who believed in higher education. She wanted me to obtain the best possible education so that I can become someone who can contribute to and better my country. She provided me with the opportunities to explore countries and to become a truly global citizen. My family had a stable small business back then. However, my mother died of lung cancer when I was 18 years old. My whole world shattered and I wanted to give up on everything. Yet, I pursued the goals she set up for me and went to study abroad in Japan a week after her death for it was her last wish. In Japan, I won the International Women's Speech contest even though I went there speaking no Japanese and was the only freshman student to even participate in the contest. Then after researching more opportunities to grow academically and personally, I chose to come to the U.S. speaking very little English to study at Bunker Hill Community College. I worked exceptionally hard to excel at it and soon became the Vice President of  Foreign Language Club and obtained my Associate's Degree in Business Administration. I then transferred to Mount Holyoke College to pursue my Bachelor's Degree in International Relations.

My father tried every possible way to save money for my tuition by selling his car and apartment and getting loans from banks. Unfortunately, he was diagnosed with kidney failure stage three this summer. He is no longer able to work and his business went bankrupt. Yesterday, I received a letter from Student Financial Services saying that if I don't pay the remainder of this semester's tuition of $3,500 by December 1st, I will be withdrawn from the college permanently. I am currently taking 22 credits to graduate early, but I still have two full semesters left to complete. Next semester, I will have to pay $5,000 and my last semester at Fall 2016 will cost $6,500. In total, I need $15,000 to graduate from Mount Holyoke. I am asking for your help because I have no one else to turn to.

It took me a lot of hesitance and courage to ask for help from others. However, I need help now more than ever. Please, invest in me to pursue my goals and to become a successful individual that can contribute to my society. I will not fail your trust. Your investment in my education means so much to me and my family.

Thank you.

Sincerely yours,
Oulen Bayanmunkh.
