Help Nori Get to Amsterdam

Donation protected

Hello,

My name is Nori, and I am a proud Korean transwoman, trans health advocate, and the Care Navigator for the Transgender Care Navigation Program at UCSF Medical Center in San Francisco, CA.

Everyday, I receive numerous phone calls and emails from transgender and gender non-conforming patients who desperately need critical gender-affirming medical and mental health care. My program directly refers these patients to trans-competent medical and mental health providers and provides crucial assistance when these services are not covered by insurance. I also advocate on behalf of patients when they encounter providers who discriminate based on gender identity as well as provide comprehensive training to medical providers on how to respectfully work with transgender patients.
Since helping to create this much needed program over 6 months ago, I have connected over 400 transgender and gender-non-conforming individuals to affirming medical care.  This work is deeply meaningful and rewarding to me since I have personally experienced the extreme difficulties in accessing competent medical care as a transwoman of color.

Earlier this year I submitted an abstract proposal to present my work in transgender health care navigation at the World Professional Association for Transgender Health (WPATH) Symposia held in Amsterdam in June, and I am so excited to say that it was selected for presentation. If you are not familiar, WPATH is a worldwide body of health professionals who create the international standards of transgender care for medical and mental health providers.

Presenting my work to this international body of peers is such an incredible opportunity for me to grow personally and professionally. I constantly receive consultation requests from medical teams all across the country and even the world requesting information on how to create their own navigation program for transgender patients. Attending the WPATH conference would allow me to meet this need as I share my work building this program with other providers.  I will also be able to attend many cutting edge workshops to learn excellent information and resources that I can bring back to my community here in San Francisco.

Unfortunately, UCSF Medical Center is not covering the cost for me to attend, and including travel, lodging, and registration fees, I need to raise $3,600 by June 15th in order to make it to Amsterdam for the conference.

Your kindness and generosity would be so very much appreciated. Even if you can only give a couple of dollars to help me go, I would be incredibly grateful.

Thank you for listening, and I hope you have a beautiful day.

Gratefully,

-Nori Reed
